President’s Message 2022

President’s Message 2022

Dear Colleagues,

I am honored to be President of The Wisconsin Surgical Society (WSS) and look forward to working together to continue to serve Wisconsin surgeons. The Wisconsin Surgical Society has a long history of mentoring and collaboration and a tradition clearly demonstrated in the past president messages we shared last November.

We had a very robust annual meeting in November at The American Club in Kohler, WI where we came together to celebrate 75 years as a Society. If you were unable to attend, highlights included a wonderful presentation by Dr. Julie FreischlagFform, President of the American College of Surgeons, who congratulated the Wisconsin Surgical Society on being a vibrant ACS chapter. Please join us this year for our conference which will take place November 4-5, 2022, in Kohler. We welcome any suggestions you have for the conference.

As your President, my focus will be on mentorship, collaboration and membership. Through efforts to update our infrastructure, expand member value, and embrace outreach we will continue to grow our Society and support surgeons in their efforts to collaborate and provide high quality care to Wisconsin residents.

In addition to these goals, it is my hope that we can increase our state and national advocacy efforts by gauging the interest of our members in advocacy and offering additional information and insights into the role advocacy can play in surgery practice and reimbursement.

I encourage everyone who is a member to renew today and to also reach out to your colleagues who are not members and encourage them to consider joining the Society. As part of our efforts to modernize and make the process of renewing dues more member friendly, in late summer we will begin sending invoices with a one-step payment process to all members who have not renewed at that time.

We will also be conducting a membership campaign to attract new members to the Society. If you have practice partners or local colleagues who are interested in joining You can find the application for membership on the website.

Current Active, Associate, Retired, Senior, Resident and Medical Students can renew using this link. Remember to click on your appropriate membership level.

If you are a new Associate or have recently become a Fellow with The American College of Surgeons, please fill out the application for membership form.

We invite nurse practitioners, PA’s and PhD’s involved with surgical care to join as affiliate members. The form can be found here.

Thank you for your continued support of the Wisconsin Surgical Society. Please feel free to email me at boyer.barbara@marshfieldclinic.org with suggestions, concerns or new ideas for the Society.

Sincerely,

Barbara Boyer, MD FACS
President, The Wisconsin Surgical Society
